Two years ago after a bone density test I was diagnosed with osteopenia, a precursor to osteoporosis. My doctor suggested that exercise and medication would help. Rather than going the medication route I preferred to take a holistic approach to control or even reverse this disease. So, my journey begins...
One evening at dinner with dear friends Candy and Scott Lane and Claudia and David Zulejkic they all raved about Bikram Yoga and convinced me I would really like it. After checking out the website and going through the pictures of the postures, I decided to give it a try. And, they were right. I REALLY liked it -- yes, even the 105° room. Even though it was several weeks before I was able to make it through all the positions without sitting out, I was determined to master this combination of Hatha and Raja Yoga to the best of my ability. It was the perfect fit to the Laya Yoga I have been practicing for the past 14 years. And, after sitting in meditation three times a week all that time, I really needed to add something more physical.
I've been practicing Bikram Yoga 16 months now, and am amazed at how much it's helped me. My friends tell me I carry my body differently now -- that I have an extra bounce in my step. And, I definitely have more stamina, energy and a stronger immune system. I used to get terrible colds every 3-4 months, and haven't had a cold or even been sick once since starting Bikram Yoga.
I love the fact that Bikram Yoga is a union between mind, body and Spirit. It's certainly creating strength, flexibility and balance in my body, and I view each class as a mini tune-up. As a "senior citizen" I can't think of anything more stimulating or challenging than BY. Every class reenergizes, reorganizes and revitalizes the entire body. How cool is that?
Karen, David and the entire staff at BY are always so friendly, loving and encouraging. I am thankful and grateful for the opportunity to learn from their wisdom and dedication to the practice. It's wonderful to meet new people and make new friends...all seeking a better, healthier and more peaceful life through the ancient practice of yoga -- proven to work for some 5,000 years.
