Seven months ago I wasn't sure Bikram Yoga was for me. I was skeptical about
the heat, length of class and my flexibility. After my first class with
a supportive teacher and encouraging students, I knew I was home. As I kept coming to class practicing the techniques of each posture, I noticed a change in how I felt mentally and physically.
My first goal was to attend 10 classes in 30 days. At the time it was the most difficult thing I ever set out to do, but the results were great. My flexibility and strength were improving but most importantly to me my posture was getting so much better. My family, friends and people I hadn't seen in a while commented on how I looked. I felt good!
My body was transforming. Clothes either finally fit or were too big which was a good thing for me.
And then there was this buzz in the air about a challenge to complete 60
classes in 60 days. I thought it would be impossible for me, a flight
attendant, to take on. I kept hearing stories about students victoriously
meeting their goals. They did x amount of doubles, attended the 5:30 a.m.
class and rearranged schedules to accomplish the challenge. Also, all of
them had families, careers and lives outside the studio.
I was inspired and wanted to participate in the challenge. It is amazing what we can accomplish when we make up our mind to do so. I did x amount of doubles, attended 5:30 a.m. classes, rearranged my schedule and took a class in Salt Lake City and Philadelphia. The challenge felt incredible and was worth it. I got the t-shirt that came with my new mind, new body and new life. During the challenge I was encouraged by the teachers and fellow classmates who helped me to reach my goal...so much that I completed 95 classes in 90 days. Thank you all for all your support!
I've gained a new attitude toward fitness and realize my health is more
important than the numbers on the scale. Those changes I guess are a bonus attached to Bikram yoga. My life gets pretty busy but my intention is to practice consistently 3-5 classes a week. I so much enjoy coming to class, seeing everyone and seeing the change in me. Each day I come to class I better my life and yoga practice.
See you in class,
Katherine
